Finding your animation in Live

Sometimes the driver is on the material or a controller, not the object you clicked. Here’s where to look.

Where is the driver actually stored?

You animateDriver owner to inspect
Object location, rotation, scale or display colourThe Object
A light's PowerThe Light data
Emission Strength in a shaderThe material's node tree and that input socket
A controller's custom propertyThe object/datablock carrying that property

Why the red lens may not resolve in Live

A lens mesh can display a material driven somewhere else. Select the material input or the actual controller used by the setup. If an Object Info → Color connection feeds the shader, inspect the object's colour: the node reads that value and need not carry a driver itself.

Trace the signal: controller or object colour → shader input → visible lens. Editing the mesh's transform will not change an emission driver.

Explicit target versus remembered target

Use the property's right-click Espresso menu to apply directly, or use Use as Espresso Target where that route is offered. A remembered last target is a convenience, not a guarantee that your current selection owns the effect. Always read the destination line before applying or updating.

When Live cannot find an effect

  1. Confirm the template matches the applied effect.
  2. Inspect the exact owner and property, not just a nearby mesh.
  3. Choose the correct applied effect if there is more than one.
  4. If the panel offers Reload Live Parameters, use it to refresh from the resolved applied setup. It is not a repair for a missing driver or helper.
  5. For Ball Bounce, verify the owned helper holder and its action are still present.

Before replacing an effect

If the destination already has an effect, review the replacement warning. Save a copy before experimenting on a valuable shot. Setup prepares a new application; Live is the route for revising the resolved existing effect.
